Pharmacist prescribing
For many everyday symptoms, your pharmacist can assess what is happening, recommend treatment and prescribe when appropriate.
Convenient care close to home. For suitable conditions, a pharmacy assessment may save a visit to a walk-in clinic or a separate family-doctor appointment. We help you choose the right next step, including referral when another level of care is needed.
Ontario pharmacists can assess and prescribe for the following conditions within their authorized scope. Your pharmacist checks whether pharmacy treatment is suitable for your symptoms, health history and medications.
We ask about your symptoms and how long you have had them, review your medications and relevant history, and discuss treatment options. When appropriate, we can prescribe an eligible medication and explain how to use it. We also discuss follow-up and when to seek further care.
New and existing patients are welcome. Bring your health card and medication list. Assessment does not guarantee a prescription. Walk-in assessments may be accommodated at the pharmacist’s discretion.
A pharmacy assessment is for suitable everyday conditions. Severe, worsening or unusual symptoms may require urgent medical care. For an emergency, call 911 or go to the emergency department.
